Georgian Chris Chase, who invented and markets MiniMate, is on a mission to save you money—and he might even end up saving your life, too!
We all know how quickly produce rots and meats go bad even when kept at optimal refrigerator temperatures. But what if a simple, natural “mate” you put in your fridge and forgot about could extend the freshness of your fruits and vegetables by a week or more? Think of all the money you would save, opening up your refrigerator to find fresh, perfect lettuce, berries, and other produce. Imagine bringing home fresh seafood knowing it will stay that way while in your refrigerator! All of your food would be fresher and healthier, and you would save lots of money on your food bill, too. “Everyone is trying to get their food to last,” says Chase, whom we interviewed from his company’s headquarters in McDonough, Georgia. (HealthQuest Technologies is the nation's leading pure air company today, thanks to its market leading Pionair Air Treatment system.) “And it’s about saving money. Everyone is trying to cut back. This is one investment that makes sense.”
The MiniMate concept actually owes its inspiration to Dee M. Graham, Ph.D., the air quality scientist who worked with Chase to develop his world-famous Pionair Air Treatment System that has become the leading air treatment brand in the nation. To go from the innovative pulsed neg-ions and activated oxygen of the Pionair to the activated oxygen in the MiniMate actually was not a big leap at all. Both reflect Chase’s dedication to helping people improve the quality of their indoor air.
Activated oxygen, says Dr. Graham, “is a strong antimicrobial agent approved by the Food and Drug Administration for direct contact with foods, including fruits and vegetables.” He adds that it “readily kills potentially harmful bacteria, such as salmonella, E. coli, and listeria; molds such as botrytis and aspergillus; viruses such as human adenovirus; and parasites such as cryptosporidium.” Activated oxygen “can help assure the microbiological safety of fresh fruits and vegetables.” This ends up saving money and probably a few lives, too.
The small MiniMate unit goes into your fridge on the shelf and pulses microbe-killing activated oxygen that drifts down and extends the life and freshness of your foods.
FRIDGES DON’T KILL GERMS!
“‘But I have a fridge and isn’t the fridge good for keeping food safe?’ That’s what I hear all the time from folks who put a whole lot more faith in the ability of their refrigerators to keep their food safe than the facts might actually allow!” says Chase. The first thing Chase wants people to understand is that simply putting food into the fridge isn’t enough to preserve its health or freshness. “People tend to think their fridge protects them from food bacteria, which produces the methane that causes rot. But the fridge does nothing of the sort. It only slows bacterial growth. The number of bacteria still grows and it does so exponentially even in the fridge. Activated oxygen, on the other hand, actually works three thousand times better than bleach. Our innovation is to make the technology that professional food handlers use available to consumers so they can start saving money right away. You will save $10 to $20 a week if you have a large family using the MiniMate.”
Of course, Chase acknowledges that by killing the microbes, food is made safer. But what is really drawing people to the product is its low price, value, and the way it helps people to save money. MiniMate pays you back the first few weeks in savings. “They might never think about the food poisoning episode they did not suffer and all the money they saved in doctors’ and hospital bills that’s also the result of the MiniMate,” Chase says. “MiniMate is uniquely suited to today’s market; it saves shoppers money. It could save you from food poisoning, but what’s on people's minds now is saving money. So I am happy to be the one saving people money.” He offers me a MiniMate for my own fridge.
Am I using it? Is it saving me money?
You bet.
