According to the Mayo Clinic,
after age 30, men begin losing
free testosterone (i.e.,
bioavailable, unbound testosterone)
at a rate of around 1 percent each
year. By their forties, this decrease can begin negatively
influencing energy, bone and muscle
growth; lowering libido; and causing weight gain
and higher blood pressure.
Testosterone creams, patches and hormone
therapy are options, but they are expensive and
come with nasty side effects, ranging from
increased prostate cancer risk to increased heart
attack risk. I thought I was powerless to stop the
loss of testosterone until a friend recommended I try
Mdrive, a natural, hormone-free, caffeine-free supplement
for supporting healthy levels of free testosterone
and libido, boosting strength and energy,
and improving recovery after physical activity.
Mdrive contains a blend of several natural herbal
ingredients—maitake mushroom extract, cordyceps
mushroom, maca extract, American ginseng extract,
damiana extract—that work together to increase
blood supply to organs and extremities, as well as
support cellular levels of adenosine triphosphate
(ATP), the molecule inside cells that releases energy,
and maintain adrenal gland health.
But the heart of the Mdrive formula is the proprietary
fenugreek herb extract Testofen. According
to a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in the
February 2011 Phytotherapy Research, wherein 60
men, ages 25 to 52, ingested 600 mg of Testofen
daily for six weeks. Researchers found, “Testofen
demonstrated a significant positive effect on physiological
aspects of libido and may assist to maintain
normal healthy testosterone levels.”
Eager to get an even clearer picture of what
separates Mdrive from the pack, I contacted the
man behind the supplement, noted formulator and
health and wellness advisor Gary Kehoe.
When I ask Kehoe point-blank what makes
Mdrive the best, he explains:
“Mdrive is not simply a testosterone boosting
product; it’s an endurance, strength and vitality formula.
And I attribute this to my cordyceps/maitake
blend. I also made sure that we standardized the
high levels of adenosine found in the cordyceps so
your body can produce ATP. With Mdrive, we are
trying to create energy at the cellular level.”
Kehoe adds that this energy ultimately doesn’t
come from any single ingredient or even handful of
ingredients; it’s all about the reactions among the
ingredients. “When you look at Mdrive, you’ll say,
‘There are six active ingredients.’ But when I look at
it, I see it as 17 bioactives working together.”
But unless you meet Mdrive halfway with a
healthy diet and exercise, even 17 bioactives aren’t
enough to support healthy T and renew your energy.
Kehoe has positioned Mdrive “not for the couch
potatoes, but for guys who still care about their
health, who recognize that they’re not as strong as
they used to be, but who want to get back there.”
Kehoe posits that a combination of high sugar
intake, obesity and our modern, relatively inactive
lifestyles may all be hastening testosterone drops
in men.
“When you have very high levels of insulin in
your blood, which is typical if you are obese, you
have a very difficult time maintaining healthy testosterone
levels, especially free testosterone,” Kehoe
explains. “Years ago, men were more active, doing
more farming, more lifting, more physical work.
Whereas today, they spend more time watching TV
or at their computer or sitting in an office.”
All that time in front of the TV is also causing
men to spend less time in the bedroom. Low
testosterone leads to lower sex drive, and while
Kehoe says he didn’t set out to improve men’s
libidos, helping to do this nevertheless is one of
Mdrive’s benefits.
“It’s a side effect, but it makes sense when you
increase free testosterone. It binds to the androgen
receptors that are responsible for sex drive and
better sex performance.”
Better energy, stabilized T and the only side
effect is a healthier sex drive? I ended my talk with
Gary Kehoe not only confident I had found the right
testosterone supplement for me but the right one
for all men over 30.
